How does Givex support your professional growth and development?
When I first moved to London from Scotland, I had very little money and stayed with friends until I could support myself—I was determined to build a life here, and I did. I started as a Fulfillment Operative at Givex during my first year in the city in 2017, and I decided to make the most of the opportunity presented to me.
Growing up, my mum would always say, “If you’re going to do something, do it properly,” and that advice still resonates with me today. With this work ethic and Givex’s support, I was promoted to Lead Hand of Fulfillment. Recently, in 2024, I transitioned to the role of Team Lead, Program Administration and Control—a position that not only aligns with my strengths but also offers the growth I aspired to when I first joined.
How do you balance work and personal life while working at Givex?
This question especially applies to me, as I come to work every day with my best friend and partner, and we work together at Kingfisher to consistently deliver results. Like any relationship, we have occasional disagreements, but our shared values enable us to balance both work life and home life in a fulfilling way. Givex took a chance on me first, and then my partner, and I believe we’ve proven time and again that it was the right decision.
In addition to that, the ability to work from home when needed has allowed me to pursue personal and career goals more fully. I’m incredibly grateful that instead of faltering during the pandemic, Givex adapted and evolved to meet the challenges we faced—a trend I’m confident will continue.
What unique skills or perspectives do you bring to your role at Givex?
While many might say the skills I offer aren’t particularly unique, I am proud of the strengths I bring to the table: attention to detail, organization, time management, and creativity. These abilities have proven essential in my work at Givex.
My partner affectionately calls me a ‘fusspot,’ which I don’t mind at all. My attention to detail has helped prevent potential issues at the Fulfillment House and is now a vital asset in my role as Team Lead of Program Administration. This skill also enables me to help my colleagues better understand protocols and methodologies, sometimes even improving current processes. If being a ‘fusspot’ means making things run more smoothly, then I proudly accept the title!
What role does collaboration play in your daily work at Givex?
Throughout my time at Givex, I’ve learned to rely on colleagues across various departments to ensure we deliver the best service to our clients. From the tech team to card production and implementation specialists, I work closely with many teams—especially now, as I create accurate documentation for our evolving processes.
It has been eye-opening and fascinating to see the value each role brings to the company. I’m proud to play my part as one piece of the larger puzzle that is Givex.
What do you think is the best part of working at Givex?
Over the years, I’ve built relationships with my colleagues, many of whom I now consider friends. These friendships have made my time here more enjoyable and have been particularly important during the busy peak seasons. The camaraderie we share boosts morale and makes coming to work an absolute joy.
Additionally, the team-building events have been instrumental in boosting my confidence in interacting with my colleagues and even networking outside of the company. I still remember the nerves I felt when I first joined and had to make phone calls—now, that feels like a lifetime ago.
In what ways has working at Givex as Team Lead of Program Administration and Control challenged you?
I started as a Fulfillment Operative with the goal of working my way up to a role that better suited my abilities and would benefit the company. Along the way, I’ve learned to make better use of the tools at our disposal. For example, I wasn’t confident using Excel formulas or navigating POS hardware—skills that I’ve now mastered.
Moving forward, my biggest challenge has been developing my social skills, as I connect with new people both inside and outside Givex. It would have been easy to avoid these challenges, but curiosity drives me, and I’m always eager to learn new things.
What made you interested in entering the tech industry?
My interest in tech began out of necessity during my young adult years when computers became more common in households. As technology broke down or became outdated, I taught myself how to troubleshoot through trial and error. Over time, I accumulated knowledge about how tech works and became fascinated by new advancements.
While I initially pursued creative outlets like drawing and music, I realized that for long-term stability, I needed to focus on a growing field—technology was the obvious choice.
Where do you see yourself at Givex in 3 years?
In three years, I hope to expand my knowledge of the various roles within the company, so I can support my colleagues as I’ve been supported since day one. I remember my first interview at Givex, when I was asked where I saw myself in five years—I said I wanted to own a house. Now, my partner and I have a mortgage, and that wouldn’t have been possible without the stability Givex has provided.
As for where I’ll be in another three years—who knows? But I’m excited to find out!
