Choosing a suitable workplace is a pivotal decision in one’s professional journey. The journey began when I first applied for my current role as Business Development Manager. The application process was innovative and out of the box, which immediately piqued my interest. I knew at that moment that this company had something unique to offer to expand my career growth. Fast forward to today, I can confidently say my intuition was correct.

In what ways has working at Givex as a Business Development Manager challenged you? 

Embarking on a career as a Business Development Manager is like stepping into a dynamic and ever-changing arena of challenges and opportunities. The role demands a unique blend of strategic thinking, interpersonal skills, and adaptability. Before I started my journey with Givex, I had ten years of experience in a sales and account management role, which provided me with basic guidelines for beginning this journey. As a newbie in Canada, starting in the tech industry was challenging, but Givex has supported and guided me, allowing me to perform my best. As a Business Development Manager, I faced market uncertainties when my journey at Givex began with the first wave of the pandemic. This challenge taught me how to navigate through unpredictable economic landscapes, changing consumer behaviours, and industry trends.

Today, I am responsible for acquiring new clients to expand our business while ensuring existing relationships flourish. To do this, I must communicate effectively, express a deep understanding of client needs, and have the ability to adapt strategies for evolving customer expectations. In my role, I consistently differentiate the company from competitors. This involves crafting unique value propositions, staying ahead of industry innovations, and showing why our solutions outshine the alternatives. Success in business development is not achieved in isolation; collaboration with various departments, from marketing to product development, is essential. 

What does your day-to-day schedule look like working here? 

My day-to-day schedule might look very simple, but like every role, it comes with challenges, expectations, and responsibilities. I am primarily responsible for acquiring new clients on the West Coast while retaining a relationship with our existing clients. The day typically begins with a review of emails, industry news, and updates. This time is crucial for staying informed about market trends, competitor activities, and urgent matters requiring immediate attention. The day continues with planning and strategizing for the existing and new clients. Most days are filled with presentations, meetings, and following up with prospects. I also engage with our clients to understand their needs and explore future opportunities. I often require collaboration with Finance, the Implementation Team, the Fulfillment Team, and other departments to ensure seamless communication and alignment of ongoing projects. The day typically ends with administrative tasks, including updating CRM systems, responding to internal teams, and ensuring all documentation is in order.

How has your experience in the field of sales prepared you for your current role at Givex? 

My past experiences have seamlessly integrated into my current role, offering a wealth of insights and skills that serve as a solid foundation for success. Before working at Givex, I worked in various roles, including Key Account Manager, Sales Manager, Partnership Manager, and Product Manager. This experience helped me to understand market dynamics, work in fast-paced environments, enhance my learning capabilities, and, most importantly, help me to understand clients’ requirements. These past roles allowed me to become successful in my current position with effective communication, relationship building, resilience, strong negotiation skills, and a results-oriented mindset.

What’s your favourite part about coming to work every day? What keeps you motivated? 

As a person, I am very extroverted, which means I like communicating with different people. The most exciting part about coming to work every day is connecting with prospects, clients, and internal teams. Not to mention, I like taking on new challenges, learning new technologies, and solving problems. Coming to work means I can communicate with my clients and prospects to help them with our technology, ensuring their business runs smoothly. It allows me to engage in dynamic discussions, collaborate on innovative projects, and see the collective efforts of a cohesive team, making each day uniquely fulfilling. The people and the positive work culture transform my workplace into a space where challenges are met with enthusiasm, making the journey of professional growth and accomplishment truly enjoyable.

At this stage in your career, where do you see yourself within Givex in the next three years? 

At this stage in my career, I envision myself using my experiences and expertise to assume a role where I can contribute strategically to organizational growth. I am committed to further working on my skills, staying at the forefront of industry trends, and actively mentoring and collaborating with my team. As I progress, I aim to make impactful contributions to projects and initiatives, driving positive change within Givex.

I passionately cherish my work at Givex, and this sentiment wouldn’t exist without the incredible team. Comprising a fantastic group, my team exemplifies unwavering support, mutual collaboration, and genuine solidarity. What made you interested in entering the tech industry? What about Givex made you specifically choose this company?

Entering the tech industry was a natural growth for me, driven by a deep interest in the transformative power of technology. I’m a millennial, and we are the generation that has seen a dramatic shift in technology. Naturally, from an early age, I was captivated by the pace of innovation and the profound impact that technological advancements could have on society. The ever-changing nature of technology, with its ability to shape the future and solve complex problems, ignited a passion within me to be a part of this dynamic field. When I applied to Givex and researched the company, I was interested in the technological journey they embarked on from the beginning. Essentially, what made me interested in entering the Givex World was the allure of being part of a community that thrives on pushing the envelope, solving real-world problems, and creating a future shaped by technology’s boundless potential. This dynamic landscape and the prospect of making a meaningful impact continue to fuel my enthusiasm for being an integral part of Givex.
